Small gardens of annual vegetables, herbs and short lived perennials also have their place in the system for every day nutrition and dietary diversity. These plants can also be organized in productive polycultures and managed more intensively than any other system on the farm. Regular application of minerals, manures, compost, beneficial microbiology and an avoidance of tilling and heavy soil disturbance insures high levels of nutrient density in one's daily diet from the garden and constantly improving soil nutrition.
